Ross Wilson

Ross Wilson is probably the only person in Australian rock music who can’t make a comeback simply because he has never been away. In a career that spans over 30 years Ross remains one of the country’s most respected artists. From “Daddy Cool” to “Mondo Rock”, as a solo artist, or as a songwriter of A-grade classics such as “Eagle Rock” & “A Touch of Paradise”, or as a producer of the legendary “Skyhooks”, “Jo Jo Zep” and more recently “The Screaming Jets”, Ross’s involvement with success has continued unabated.

His hit “Eagle Rock” is listed Number 2 in the all time Australian Top Ten and his songs have been recorded by artist as diverse as Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, Jennifer Rush, You Am I, Renee Geyer, Christine Anu, Lee Kernaghan, The Flying Burrito Bros and The Salvation Army Band. Ross concluded the century as special guest on the John Farnham “I Can’t Believe I’m 50” tour and CD and headlined the huge “The Long Way to the Top” national tour. He has just completed the “Now & Then” tour with Mondo Rock featuring some of the Worlds best 80’s acts. His latest CD “County & Wilson” is on radio and in the charts and features some of Australia’s best session musicians weaving their magic on traditionally brilliant Wilson tunes with Ross’s unique vocal style blending the mix. Ross Wilson is truly a national treasure!

James Blundell

Perhaps best know for his work in the country music genre, James Blundell is no longer being pigeonholed by an industry known for being fickle. Associate Editor of respected Sydney music magazine Drum Media, Michael Smith, said as much when he wrote, “(James Blundell) is no more a country artist than Paul Kelly is. He’s a roots Australian singer songwriter, drawing from rock, pop and country. ”Born in 1964 to an English mother and an Australian father, his formative years were spent in Queensland, Australia, where the Blundell family have owned and operated a mixed sheep and cattle property since 1937. James’ early exposure to music was the day to day fare of mid 60’s regional AM broadcast and so covered a wide range of styles and statements.

The first record he ever put on a turntable, aged 8, was Marty Robbins' "The Gunfighter Ballads", a collection of highly evocative story songs that influenced him profoundly. From then on he believed that a song should either describe events, or say something of value in the 4 minutes that it has the listener’s attention.

However James’ professional career did not start until 1986. Although he had begun writing songs at the age 16, it took a work place accident, and time in hospital to bring him to the realization that what he had always done for love, would now be the way he would sustain himself both commercially and philosophically for the rest of his life.

With influences as diverse as 'The Tijuana Brass', Eric Clapton, Petula Clark, and the Angels, it took several years, and numerous attempts for his personal style to crystallize.

Conflict with personnel and attitude in the music industry ensured a colourful and sometimes chequered career, a career which has now brought James to the release of his eighth studio album, currently in the final stages of production.

"I am happy with this record. It encompasses both provocative philosophy, and a somewhat light hearted acceptance of the fact that even in the midst of chaos, life, love, and personal politics still occupy enormous amounts of our time and energy. In short, even though the present circumstances are desperate, we can still enjoy the ultimate gift of living, and should never lose sight of the fact that there is always hope of a better tomorrow".

He returned to Channel 9 to star along side Jon English and Rebecca Gibney in the hit national sitcom Altogether Now as the lovable Doug Stevens. He wrote and performed his own segments on the award winning adult literacy series The Reading Writing Roadshow for the ABC network. All of the above shows are still on air around the world. In 1987 he was nominated for an aria award for the best comedy album Life’s Just a Routine. He is no stranger to the big screen either with roles in Fair Game, Dead End Drive In, Heat Wave, Close Contact the soon to be released You Can’t Stop the Murders.
